This course provides a comprehensive study of the History of Global Art, Art Appreciation and Art Criticism, and Entrepreneurial Skills in Visual Arts, with specific alignment to the Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE) syllabus. It introduces learners to the development of art from prehistoric times to contemporary periods, covering African, Ghanaian, European, Oriental, and Oceanic art traditions. The course also equips learners with analytical skills for appreciating and critiquing artworks, as well as foundational entrepreneurial competencies necessary for sustainable visual art practice.
Emphasis is placed on timelines, philosophies, characteristics, functions, styles, techniques, and key artists, using clear comparisons and structured content to support multiple-choice assessment formats. The course prepares pre-service and in-service teachers to effectively teach visual arts at the Basic and Secondary School levels in Ghana, while meeting professional and licensure standards.
Target Group: Visual Arts Education Students / Teachers (Basic & Secondary)
Purpose: This course is designed to prepare candidates for the Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE) with emphasis on conceptual understanding, factual recall, comparisons, timelines, characteristics, functions, and applications, assessed mainly through multiple-choice examinations.
