This course is designed to prepare teacher trainees for success in the Ghana Teacher Licensure Examinations (GTLE) by building a strong foundation in core General Science concepts required at the Primary and Junior High School (JHS) levels.
The course covers essential topics including the nature of soil, elements, compounds and mixtures, acids, bases and salts, and chemical compounds. Emphasis is placed on conceptual understanding, use of diagrams, chemical symbols, simple equations, and real-life classroom applications, all of which are key areas assessed in the GTLE.
Through structured units and modules, learners will explore scientific processes such as soil formation and profiling, atomic structure and electronic configuration, ion formation, classification and effects of acids and bases, preparation of salts, and formation and balancing of chemical equations. The course adopts a competency-based approach, enabling learners not only to pass the licensure examination but also to teach science effectively in Ghanaian classrooms.
By the end of the course, participants will be able to explain scientific concepts clearly, draw and label required diagrams accurately, apply scientific knowledge to everyday situations, and answer both objective and structured GTLE questions with confidence.
