About Course

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course is designed to equip teacher trainees and practicing teachers with the essential knowledge, skills, and attitudes required to successfully prepare for the Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE). It focuses on three critical areas of the Basic School curriculum: Environmental Studies, Mapping Skills, and Family Life Education, with strong emphasis on real-life application within the Ghanaian context.

The course explores key environmental concepts such as the meaning and types of environment, sanitation, environmental problems in Ghana, their causes and effects, and practical strategies for addressing these challenges. Learners will also examine sources of energy in Ghana and develop skills in energy conservation to promote sustainable development.

In addition, the course develops learners’ understanding of the major physical features of the Earth and enhances their map-reading and interpretation skills. Candidates will learn to locate important rivers, vegetation zones, and continents using maps, enabling them to apply geographical knowledge effectively in everyday life and classroom teaching.

The Family Life Education component focuses on adolescent development and reproductive health, covering physical, emotional, cognitive, and social changes during adolescence. It also addresses responsible reproductive health behaviour, common challenges faced by adolescents, and appropriate strategies for managing these challenges in schools and communities.

Overall, the course emphasizes GTLE exam requirements, practical teaching approaches, and the application of knowledge to real-life situations. It prepares learners not only to pass the licensure examination but also to function effectively as competent, responsible, and reflective teachers in Ghanaian basic schools.
