About Course

Course Description

This course is a comprehensive preparation programme designed for prospective Senior High School (SHS) English Language teachers and candidates preparing for the Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE). It focuses on the core language competencies assessed by the National Teaching Council (NTC), with strong emphasis on oral language, reading, and writing skills.

Learners will develop a solid understanding of English speech sounds, stress patterns, minimal pairs, and communicative functions, enabling accurate and effective oral communication. The course also strengthens reading comprehension skills, including interpretation of texts at literal, inferential, and figurative levels, identification of sentence and paragraph functions, and the application of appropriate reading techniques.

In addition, the course equips learners with both micro and macro writing skills, covering punctuation, capitalization, spelling, cohesion, coherence, paragraph development, and the conventions of various writing genres such as essays, letters, reports, speeches, CVs, and minutes. Throughout the course, learners engage with GTLE-style questions, practical exercises, and exam-focused activities to build confidence and mastery.

This course is ideal for final-year education students, newly trained teachers, and in-service teachers seeking licensure or improved competence in SHS English Language instruction.
