The Integrated Science for Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE) course is a comprehensive, competency-based programme designed to equip pre-service and in-service teachers with the scientific knowledge, skills, and practical understanding required to successfully pass the GTLE and teach science effectively at the Primary and Junior High School (JHS) levels in Ghana.
The course integrates key concepts from Nature of Science, Life Science, Physical Science, Agricultural Science, and Environmental Science, in line with the National Teaching Council (NTC) licensure framework and the Basic Education Curriculum. Emphasis is placed on conceptual understanding, real-life application, problem-solving, and classroom relevance.
Learners are guided through the historical development of science, scientific inquiry processes, characteristics of living and non-living things, human and plant biology, properties of matter, energy, forces, basic electronics, agricultural practices, and environmental sustainability. The course also addresses emerging environmental issues in Ghana and globally, including climate change, pollution, and electronic waste.
Instruction is delivered through well-structured units and modules, supported by simplified explanations, diagrams, local examples, and GTLE-style assessment questions. Candidates will develop the ability to apply scientific methods to everyday problems, interpret data, and connect scientific concepts to teaching practice and societal needs.
This course not only prepares candidates to excel in the Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination, but also strengthens their confidence and competence as professional science educators capable of fostering scientific literacy among learners.
