About Course

Course Description

This course is designed to prepare prospective and practicing teachers for the Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE) by providing a comprehensive understanding of the Early Grade Integrated Curriculum (KG–Primary 2) as prescribed by NaCCA. It equips learners with the content knowledge, pedagogical skills, and assessment strategies needed to effectively teach Literacy, Numeracy, Creative Arts, and Our World Our People (OWOP) using learner-centred approaches.

The course emphasizes competency-based teaching, focusing on how young learners develop oral language, phonics, comprehension, number sense, measurement, creativity, cultural awareness, and social values. Participants will explore practical classroom strategies such as storytelling, play-based learning, use of teaching and learning materials (TLMs), group activities, questioning techniques, and formative assessment.

Through guided modules, real classroom scenarios, and GTLE-style practice activities, learners will gain confidence in planning lessons, integrating subjects, managing early grade classrooms, and assessing pupils’ learning outcomes. Special attention is given to Ghanaian culture, values, community life, environmental awareness, and global citizenship, ensuring teachers can connect learning to pupils’ real-life experiences.

By the end of this course, participants will be able to design effective early grade lessons, apply child-centred methodologies, integrate multiple learning areas, and demonstrate the professional competencies required to successfully pass the Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination and function effectively as early grade teachers.
